“I’ll Pretend You’re My Mother”
Child (10) escapes kidnapping with a trick
Sammy Green was followed on his way home last Friday in Pottstown, USA. The boy reacted with lightning speed, seeking help and thus avoiding a possible kidnapping.
Ten-year-old Sammy Green has escaped his own kidnapping.
Ten-year-old Sammy Green, from Pottstown, Pennsylvania, was on his usual walk home from school last Friday. But then a strange woman appeared.
She started talking to him and offered to buy him food at a grocery store: “Are you going to Wawa too? I’m going to Wawa. What would you buy Wawa? Where is your family?” the stranger asked, according to the local television channel “6abc”.
Sammy immediately sensed that something was wrong. “I was scared and shaking, so I had to think fast,” the boy says. Then he remembered what his father had taught him, if someone followed him: “Don’t trust them. Be casual and go see an adult.” So he went to his favorite store called Dani Bee Funky.
Possible kidnapping averted
When he entered, the stranger stopped at the door. Sammy walked up to the cashier Hannah Daniels (17) and whispered to her what was going on. He told her: ‘This woman has been following me for a while. I’ll pretend you’re my mother.”
Hannah didn’t hesitate, she went to the door and closed it. The campaign was a success: the stranger escaped.
“I cried every time”
In fact, Pottstown police found the woman later that week and admitted her to a mental hospital. Therefore, Sammy’s family is not suing the woman.
Sam Green, Sammy’s father, tells the television network how proud he is of his son and how difficult it was for him to watch the surveillance video. “I cried every time I saw it.” Sammy is being escorted home from school by a family friend. The family hopes her story will encourage other families to talk to their children about such scenarios beforehand. (lrc)
