Colorado Springs, United StatesSchütze (22) is known to the police: “I hope you burn in hell for that.”
The 22-year-old, who killed five people and injured several at an LGBTIQ+ club on Sunday night, has been targeted by authorities on multiple occasions.
Shots at Club Q, a nightclub in the American city popular with the gay, lesbian and trans community Colorado Springs, five people have died and 25 have been injured. Several injured club goers have life-threatening injuries.
Shortly before midnight, a man entered the club with a gun and immediately began shooting. He was overwhelmed by at least two “heroic” guests and is injured at hospital, police said Sunday.
The suspected shooter has been identified as Anderson Lee Aldrich. The 22-year-old is a resident of the city, writes the “Washington Post”. He was indicted last year for a bomb threat in a neighborhood very close to the club.
The perpetrator was known to the police.
Most recently, Aldrich was arrested by police in mid-June when he threatened his mother with a pipe bomb and other weapons. The Washington Post writes that the police came out and ordered the evacuation of the entire neighborhood.
Aldrich was subsequently charged with multiple misdemeanors. Including serious threats and kidnapping. It is unclear if requests have been made to prevent the 22-year-old from obtaining firearms. The “Red Flag” law has made this possible since 2019. Judges have the power to order the confiscation of firearms from people with a history of mental illness or violence.
“I hope you’re burning in hell”
Shortly before the shooting, drag queen “Del Lusional” made an appearance. “I didn’t see anything. I was on my way backstage when I heard the shots. But I saw the aftermath and even then I didn’t want to look,” the drag queen wrote on Twitter.
The artist continued: “It doesn’t feel real. Walking through the bar that I call home and seeing it like this… I was so proud of what I accomplished tonight. I hate him.” In his last tweet, he went public that he lost his brother in the killing. “I hope you burn in hell for this,” writes Del Lusional.
Another eyewitness reports opposite “Colorado Public Radio” that one of the victims ran to a nearby gas station. “One of the victims was shot seven times and ran here to get help. Then she collapsed,” the witness told the radio station.
the british portal “Independiente” writes that police spokeswoman Pam Castro emphasized at a press conference early in the morning that the investigation of the crime is still in its early stages and that the motive is still unknown. She also added that the number of dead and injured could change “in the course of the investigation.” The FBI was called in to investigate.
