A wave of shootings broke out in Colorado Springs, Colorado on Sunday night. Police were initially unable to say how many people were in the club at the time of the crime.
Five people were killed and 18 wounded in a shooting at a nightclub in the US city of Colorado Springs. This was announced by the police on Sunday night (local time) at a press conference in the state of Colorado. A suspicious person was caught by the police at the club and is in custody. Investigations into the motive for the crime are still ongoing. No further details were initially known.
According to media reports, it is a club for gays and lesbians. On the Facebook page, Club Q, where the incident is said to have occurred, invites people to drag shows, events on transgender issues and karaoke, among other things.
Police were initially unable to say how many people were in the club at the time of the crime. The injured were taken to nearby hospitals. Videos circulating on the internet show numerous police cars with flashing lights during an operation.
“We are devastated”
“We have located an individual who we believe to be the suspect,” said Colorado Springs Police Lt. Pamela Castro. Castro did not disclose whether the suspect was included among those injured in the shooting, how reports CNN.
In a statement on social media, Club Q said it was “devastated by the senseless attack on our community” and offered its condolences to the victims and their families. A news conference on the killing spree is scheduled for 8 a.m. local time (3 p.m. ET), according to Colorado Springs police.
