Curling EM in Östersund – Switzerland beats arch rivals – men celebrate two victories – sport


After the easy victory at the start, the Swiss curlers also defeat Sweden. The men also start perfectly in the Eurocup.

After the undisputed 10:2 victory against Latvia at the start of the European Championship, the Swiss Curlers also won their second game in Östersund. The team with Skip Silvana Tirinzoni, Alina Pätz, Carole Howald and Briar Schwaller-Hürlimann won 10:4 against hosts Sweden.

Pätz achieved the decision against the arch-rivals in the eighth set with a strong last stone, thanks to which he secured a four-man home for CC Aarau in the decisive 9: 4 (see video above).

Already in the third set, Switzerland had managed a triple to make it 3-0, but Sweden with Skip Anna Hasselborg was able to come back from 4:5 in the seventh set.

Men beat Czech Republic and Norway

The Swiss men had previously started the European Championship final with a win on Saturday morning. Against the Czech Republic, the foursome with Pablo Lachat, Sven Michel, Skip Yannick Schwaller and Benoît Schwarz pulled away in the fourth set with a three-pointer to 5:1 after Czech Skip Lukas Klima missed a stone.

After another two-man home in the 6th set to make it 7:2, the game was over, after the 7th set the Czechs gave up. The Swiss shone with a quota of more than 90 percent of successful stones.

In the second game of the European Championship just 12 hours later, the team met more resistance, but recorded the next victory: against Norway, thanks to a two-man house at ends 6 and 8, they secured a 7:3.

The two Swiss teams want to continue their positive start in the European Championship on Sunday. The men will take on Turkey at 2pm, the women will also take on Turkey at 9am and Norway at night at 7pm (all games live on SRF).
