that’s what it’s all about

  • A German photographer took a spectacular photo of the view of Mount Pilatus.

  • The special thing about this photo is that it contains several moments of the day in a single shot.

  • Max Meyer, the photographer, used the so-called “time-lapse technique.”

Show different times of the day in a single photo: that’s what you can do with the Timelapse – Technik can do. And Max Meyer, a German photographer from Tübingen, does it very well, on the online platform. Reddit gets a round of applause from Meyer for his recordings of various users.

In July 2022, Meyer was on Pilatus and used this technique to take the spectacular landscape photo. «I started in 2019 with the timelapse technique to photograph,” Meyer says after 20 minutes. Meyer has his best time-lapse footage on the site Collection of timelapse photos. The photographer then explained the entire process behind this unique photo.

Five shots at a time, every 15 minutes

“I was there from sunset until eleven in the morning. I took a panorama photo every 15 minutes, which means five photos at the same time,” says Meyer. The photographer added that he took several photos using the automatic function of the camera to capture interesting scenes between people.

According to the photographer, the biggest challenge is being patient when shooting outdoors. “Also, sometimes it can get so windy that it’s hard to achieve longer exposure times after sunset without blurring. The weather forecast is not always reliable.

After the series of shots, Meyer created the final photo with an image-editing program: “I went through each individual photo and added some interesting scenes to the final photo.” Therefore, the photo is a combination of panoramic shots and individual scenes over a period of approximately seven hours and contains three different moments of the day: night, sunrise and day.
